1948 Ronald Reagan Posing in a Chesterfield Cigarette Advertisement

Many years before, he became President of the U.S., Ronald Reagan was a model for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company. Chesterfield Cigarettes, were one of their most popular brands. Reagan was a model for the tobacco industry in the 1930's. As a well known Hollywood actor, he was ideal for this 1948 Chesterfield advertisement.  With a smile on his face, and a cigarette in his mouth, Ronald Reagan offers, "I like Chesterfield Cigarettes best, because = the tobacco is so smooth !"  In the U.S., cigarette ads have been banned for decades.   On the television show "The Twilight Zone," Rod Serling was smoking a Chesterfield Cigarette, while he was introducing, the next episode.  In the films "Goldfinger" and "Reservoir Dogs"  Chesterfield Cigarettes are offered and smoked.  Times have changed, and in the United States, tobacco and cigarettes have lost most of their popularity. Ads are outlawed, and Chesterfield Cigarettes are no longer available here. Years later, through a series of lawsuits, it was revealed Chesterfield Cigarettes were covering up the negative health effects of tobacco, by using deceptive advertising.
